Austrian companies Evercraft Ecotechnologies and biogas producer BioG opened the world’s first Advanced Carbon Absorption (ACA) plant in Utzenaich, Austria on January 27, 2024. The facility enables the extraction of CO2 from biogas plants and its conversion into high-quality carbon products without releasing additional CO2.
The ACA technology is based on an innovative process that captures CO2 from biogas plants using electrodes and a special catalyst. The captured CO2 is then transformed into high-quality carbon products such as carbon fibers, graphene, or nanotubes in a subsequent step.
The advantages of ACA technology are evident: it allows the emission-free utilization of biogas, contributes to decarbonizing the economy, and opens up new value chains. The produced carbon material is versatile and finds applications in various industries such as construction, steel, and battery manufacturing.
